Before we go any further let's talk about what we mean by adventure tours
Many holidays could be considered adventures and what some people consider an adventurous destination or unusual holiday, others may not.
What we mean when we talk about adventure tours are small group tours all over the world, where you’ll generally travel by local transport and stay in more basic accommodation. It’s the style of travel that is adventurous.
By and large on an adventure holiday you’ll travel by local transport, perhaps buses, trains and ferries, however you may find yourself on private buses when local transport isn’t feasible or if you’re upgrading the standard of your tour. Flights may also be included where the distances are great.
Again the standard of accommodation will depend on the level of the tour you choose but generally you’ll be staying in more simple hotels and lodges. Often you’ll be staying in family run establishments with real character, unique homestays are often included and you may even spend a few nights under canvas camping.
The meals included in your trip will largely depend on where you are travelling but as a rule meals are usually not included so you can pick and choose where you’d like to eat based on your own tastes and budget. Adventure tours that include an element of camping will generally include the meals for that section and some "signature" meals may also be included.
Average group size differs dependant on the adventure tour company you travel with but you’ll never be in a group bigger than 16. You’ll find a wide variety of travellers from singles to friends and couples. Family adventure holidays are also increasingly popular with distinct itineraries tailored to suit the needs of travelling with children.
An enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour leader/guide will travel with you, guaranteeing fascinating insights into the local culture, and ensuring that while you have chance to immerse yourself in the destination, the tour runs like clockwork
Most tours are designed to take in the must see highlights of each destination. They will also include plenty of free time for you to explore independently and strike out on your own if you wish.
