If you’re wanting to explore Western Canada’s epic landscapes - but without the crowds which are expected to descend on Canada during the FIFA World Cup 2026 – then the below itinerary is the one for you.

In Alberta, expect to find towering Rocky Mountains, glistening lakes, unique wildlife and iconic experiences – all paired with an epic limited edition train journey.

Jasper

Head out into the back country on the Jasper Wildlife Discovery tour. Have your camera close by and cross your fingers for some amazing wildlife experiences! You may spot bears, elk, eagles, marmots and more on this tour of Jasper National Park (the largest national park in the Rockies).

At night, enjoy the world’s second largest dark sky preserve where you could even see the Northern Lights dance in the sky.

Rocky Mountaineer - Passage to the Peaks

For a limited time in summer 2026, journey to the heart of the Canadian Rockies by train and experience two incredible destinations on the Passage to the Peaks.

This experience takes you exclusively through the breathtaking highlights of the Canadian Rockies and is the only Rocky Mountaineer route that doesn’t travel to the West Coast (thus avoiding any large crowds gathering for the World Cup spectacle).

Beginning and ending in the iconic mountain towns of Banff and Jasper, this route can be taken either westbound or eastbound. The journey is for those who want to immerse themselves in the evergreen forests, sparkling glacial lakes, and towering mountains that define the region.

Banff

The town of Banff is nestled high in the Canadian Rockies within Banff National Park. The vibrant streets of downtown are lined with top-class restaurants, bars and shops, as well as a number of interesting art galleries and museums. Enjoy a Cowboy Cookout and have a blast learning to lasso and trying your hand at horseshoe throwing before a mouth-watering barbecue steak cookout.

Its namesake national park is a one-of-a-kind place and there’s something for everyone to discover with spectacular valleys, rugged peaks and hiking trails which will live long in the memory.

Calgary

Nestled at the base of the Canadian Rockies, Calgary boasts a frontier attitude and historic neighbourhoods that buzz with bravado. From contemporary arts centres, beloved music districts and avant-garde architecture, to a bustling food scene that pours out of brick heritage buildings and back-alley cantinas, Calgary is well-versed in mingling the old with the new.

Take in far reaching views from Calgary Tower or visit the Heritage Park Historical Village, set on the southwest city limits, this fascinating museum explores the diverse history of Canada across almost 130 acres.
