Buckle up for an adventure through one of Africa's largest but least known countries.

It pays to not be wedded to a specific itinerary when travelling here but some highlights include the Quicama National Park. a beautiful reserve close to Luanda and the remarkable Kalandula Falls.

Sometimes described as 'Africa in Miniature', Cameroon is linguistically, culturally and scenically one of West Africa's most intriguing countries.

The active will enjoy wandering in the foothills of Mount Cameroon while those looking for relaxation will love the scenic beaches. City life in Yaoundé and Douala is also not to be missed, both cities throb to a distinctive Cameroonian beat and are a fascinating - if chaotic - introduction to life here.

The small landlocked country of Rwanda boasts one of the world's biggest wildlife experiences - the chance to see endangered mountain gorillas. Part of the great Virunga Mountain Range, the dense forests of the beautiful Volcanoes National Park are renowned as one of the last remaining habitats of these great apes.

Gabon is a lush Garden of Eden with 13 national parks covering this verdant land.

With diverse wildlife including forest elephants and colourful birdlife, wildlife spotting abounds for patient observers. Travel here is not easy with dirt roads and a hot and humid climate but for those who are up for an adventure, Gabon is one of Africa's most rewarding destinations.

    Democratic Republic of Congo

This is Africa at it's most raw.

A cultural powerhouse, the DRC is as much about meeting the people as it is about seeing the sights. Dance to the beat of Rumba and look out for the fabulously dressed sapeurs who parade their outfits around Kinshasa.

Away from the chaos and noise of the city, perhaps join a pilgrimage while climbing Mont Mangengenge and check out the world's only bonobo sanctuary.

    Republic of the Congo

Also known as Congo-Brazzaville, this little-visited nation is home to wonderful beaches, beautiful national parks and a vibrant culture.

Travel here is challenging and you'll need to be prepared for bush camping but in return, you'll be rewarded with very few other visitors and you'll be afforded a warm welcome.

You'll likely spend time in Brazzaville, the surprisingly laidback capital while coastal Pointe-Noire is close to some of the country's best beaches.
