For most travellers, the best times are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these months, temperatures are warm but comfortable, making it ideal for exploring cities, hiking in the Atlas Mountains, or venturing into the Sahara Desert.
You won’t be dealing with extreme heat or winter chills, and the landscapes are often at their most vibrant.
Spring is widely considered to be the best time to visit Morocco.
The weather is pleasantly warm across the country, with daytime temperatures usually sitting between 20°C and 28°C. Cities like Marrakech and Fez feel lively but not overwhelming, and the country comes into bloom.
It’s also a fantastic time for:
• Exploring the Atlas Mountains without snow blocking routes.
• Taking a desert trip to the Sahara without the intense heat.
• Enjoying gardens and riads at their most beautiful.
The only consideration is that it’s popular that this time of year, so expect it to be a little busier, especially over the Easter holidays.
Summer in Morocco can be intense, but it does depend on where you go.
Inland cities like Marrakech and Fez often see temperatures soaring above 40°C, which can make sightseeing very tiring. However, coastal cities like Essaoiura and Casablanca benefit from Atlantic breezes, making them much more comfortable places to visit during the summer months.
Summer is best if you:
• Prefer a coastal escape.
• Don’t mind the heat, or if you plan to relax rather than explore.
• Want fewer crowds in major cultural sites.
If you’re looking to visit the desert during your stay in Morocco then this isn’t the best time, as the heat can be extreme.
Autumn is another contender for the best time to visit Morocco.
The scorching summer heat fades, but the weather remains warm and sunny. It’s a perfect balance, especially for first-time visitors who want to see a bit of everything.
Highlights of autumn travel in Morocco:
• Ideal conditions for desert tours.
• Great weather for city exploration.
• Slightly fewer crowds than spring.
September can still be quite hot, especially inland, but by October and November things get much more comfortable.
Winter in Morocco is often overlooked but it has its perks.
Daytime temperatures in cities like Marrakech are mild (between 18°C and 22°C), making it pleasant for sightseeing. However, mornings and evenings can be surprisingly cold, especially in the desert and the mountains. In fact, the Atlas Mountains often get snow, turning them into a unique winter destination!
Winter is a good choice if you:
• Want fewer tourists and lower prices.
• Enjoy cooler weather for exploring.
• Would like to see the snow-capped mountain scenery.
Just be prepared for chilly nights, especially if you’re staying in traditional riads or heading into the Sahara.
