  • WHERE TO GO IN MOROCCO

    Morocco holiday highlights map
    Marrakech
A vibrant and atmospheric city, Marrakech offers an enchanting mix of old and new. Immerse yourself in the cultural charms of Djemaa el Fna Square, packed with snake charmers, fortune tellers and street vendors. Discover the maze of narrow alleyways and colourful old souks of the medina (old town), or for a more relaxed ambience, head to upmarket Ville Nouvelle which offers a host of trendy galleries, leafy parks and chic restaurants.
    High Atlas Mountains
Located just a short distance away from buzzing Marrakech, the High Atlas are North Africa’s highest mountain range and offer some of the most spectacular scenery in Morocco. Dotted with remote Berber villages and stunning flora-filled valleys, the main draws to this beautiful region are the fantastic trekking opportunities, suitable for both beginners and more advanced hikers, and picturesque relaxing retreats.
    Essaouira
Boasting a beautiful stretch of windswept beach and a friendly atmosphere, the delightful Mediterranean-like port town of Essaouira is the perfect spot to relax. Explore the narrow lanes of the medina, filled with art galleries, boutiques and cafés, or head to the bustling harbour to see the local fishermen bringing in the day’s catch. Home to a plethora of exquisite restaurants, a trip to Essaouira would not be complete without sampling some delicious fresh seafood!
    Rabat
Despite being the capital city of Morocco, charming Rabat boasts a laidback vibe and is an ideal place to spend a couple of relaxing days. The scenic Bou Regreg river cuts the city in half. On one side is the old medina, its famed blue alleys enclosed by impressive sandstone walls, and on the other is Ville Nouvelle, home to palm-lined boulevards, upmarket restaurants and a marina.
    Fez
Arguably the most beautiful city in Morocco, Fez is home to the oldest medina in the country and offers a real step back in time. Housing a variety of souks – from copper and fresh food to dye, weaving and carpentry – as well as ancient fountains, hammams and a staggering 175 mosques, it’s easy to see why some locals never leave its walls. Offering a rich history, fascinating culture and relaxed pace of life, the city of Fez is a popular choice.
    Casablanca
The port city of Casablanca is the commercial hub of Morocco yet there is much more than first meets the eye. Impressive Art Deco architecture lines the streets, locals commune in vast pedestrian squares, and the grand Notre Dame church and Sacre Coeur are a beautiful testament to the city’s French influence. History enthusiasts will enjoy a tour of the city, the highlight being a visit to the famed Hassan II Mosque, the third largest in the world, which can be seen from afar across the city skyline.

OUR RECOMMENDED HOTELS & RIADS IN MOROCCO

Morocco is the only country in the world which offers authentic riad stays. Traditionally, these tall narrow buildings play host to multi-generational families and feature an interior courtyard housing a fountain and some greenery. These days many have been transformed into beautiful guesthouses offering an authentic Moroccan experience and are located inside the medina (old town) walls. They vary in size and style – from 4 to 20 rooms, from traditional to modern and from family-run to part of a wider group. Typically, they serve some of the best food in the city and are the perfect choice for those seeking a peaceful retreat from the bustling city streets and a glimpse into Moroccan daily life in years gone by.
