It’s healthy, fun, invigorating and challenging to experience a destination under your own steam. Nothing beats seeing a region using your own two feet, wheels, paddle or even horse! Opportunities for walking, hiking, cycling and active holidays are almost endless but we've managed to narrow it down to our favourites...

Read on for our guide to the world's best active experiences.

Horse Riding through The Rockies, Canada

Escaping to the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains in Canada to enjoy a relaxing horse ride through Banff National Park is a great way to take in the iconic scenery of this famous mountain range on an active adventure.

For the first settlers, horseback was their only form of transport and it is clear to see why they decided to make their home in this beautiful region as you traverse the Bow River Trail. Ensure you keep your eyes peeled for the local wildlife including eagles, hawks and possibly beavers as you take this tranquil ride.

Sandboarding in The Pinnacles, Western Australia

The Pinnacles Desert in Nambung National Park, Australia is formed of thousands of ancient limestone pillars scattered over this striking landscape and is believed to have been created millions of years ago by the breakdown of seashells.

This eerie desert vista is a sight to behold but the white sand dunes of Lancelin are the true adventure playground. Exciting 4WD tours and sandboarding down the sand dunes are only the beginning of what this fantastic area has to offer and are some of the best active experiences in this region!

Sunset Hike to the Hollywood Sign, California, USA

One of the most iconic selfies in the USA has to be in front of the famous Hollywood Sign. What better way of getting it than hiking to the top of the Hollywood Hills at sunset?

Not only does this hike reach the greatest vantage point of the Hollywood sign, but it also provides amazing views of the glittering lights of the LA skyline and the homes of many celebrities in Beverly Hills.
