South Africa Holidays

Holidays to South Africa combine incredible wildlife encounters, spectacular scenery and moving history in equal measure.

World famous national parks and game reserves offer a chance to spot the Big 5 from the comfort of luxurious safari lodges and can be found throughout the country. The Western Cape offers the enticing prospect of combining vibrant Cape Town with the vintages of the Cape Winelands and, not just one, but two world class drives, the Garden Route & Route 62. Lesser known but no less stunning are the beaches, reserves and moving battlefield sites of KwaZulu-Natal – a great tropical choice during the South African winter and now it's even easier to get there with direct flights between London and Durban!

What Trailfinders do better than anyone else is create tailormade holidays in South Africa. With us, in every part of the country, you can pick and choose how you’d like to get around, where you’d like to stay and how you’d like to experience the attractions.

Trailfinders is the UK and Ireland's No.1 to South Africa. Almost all of our travel consultants have travelled extensively here, often returning time and time again.

    South Africa map
    Cape Town
Nestled between dramatic Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Town has enticed travellers for centuries.

Visitors today can choose to stay at the vibrant V&A Waterfront, with its array of shops and restaurants or the historic City Bowl, which sits close to museums and the serene Company’s Garden. For a more relaxing stay, enjoy one of the city’s beachside suburbs including upmarket Camps Bay or Bantry Bay or alternatively, venture just a few minutes from the city to the affluent suburban areas of either Constantia for its stunning rural setting and some of the country's oldest and most renowned vineyards or Newlands, proudly standing in the shadow of majestic Table Mountain.
Cape Winelands, The Cederberg Mountains & Paternoster
The stunning Cape Winelands, located just 50 miles east of Cape Town, are home to a number of unique and historic wine estates just waiting to be explored.

Base yourself in lively Stellenbosch, with its galleries, shops and cafés; beautiful Franschhoek with its charming French ambience and fine dining restaurants or venture up the coast to the stunning Cederberg Mountains or coastal fishing village of Paternoster for a slice of relaxation and natural beauty.

Enjoy fabulous tasting tours, local gourmet delights and incredible rolling scenery along the way. Our Winelands overnight tour also includes a visit to pretty neighbouring Paarl.
    Garden Route & Beyond
Boasting vastly contrasting landscapes, quaint villages and laidback seaside towns, any journey along the Garden Route is guaranteed to offer an invigorating experience.

Travel via Hermanus, observing whales as they breech near the shore (Jul - Nov) before continuing along the coast to Plettenberg Bay or St Francis Bay, beautiful beachside havens offering relaxation and adventure. Alternatively explore the dramatic Route 62, travelling inland through rugged valleys and rolling vineyards.
    South Africa Big 5 Safaris
Whether you’re a seasoned safari-goer or it’s your first time, South Africa boasts huge wildlife diversity and a wide variety of parks and reserves to suit every budget and style.
    Johannesburg, Pretoria & Sun City
Dynamic and cosmopolitan Johannesburg is a city where fascinating museums and vibrant cultural experiences rub shoulders with world-class shops and restaurants. Historic Pretoria is the political heart, home to a number of absorbing museums, influential buildings and notable monuments whilst the array of activities and attractions in iconic Sun City have enticed families and couples alike for nearly three decades.
    KwaZulu-Natal & eSwatini
KwaZulu-Natal and eSwatini (formerly Swaziland) boast the very best of Southern Africa in one, dynamic region.

In KwaZulu-Natal, explore historic battlefields, Zulu heritage, sandy beaches and the Big 5 amid sweeping savannah scenery and a year-round tropical climate. With royal traditions and a rich culture, peaceful eSwatini offers guests rugged scenery and plentiful bird and wildlife away from the crowds.

HOW TO GET AROUND SOUTH AFRICA

There’s a wonderful choice of ways to enjoy holidays in South Africa with Trailfinders. Excellent roads, stunning scenery and short distances mean South Africa is a perfect fly drive destination – they even drive on the left. If you’d prefer to sit back, relax and enjoy the passing landscape rather than being behind the wheel, why not opt for a Chauffeured Fly Drive where you will be whisked around with the choice of an expert chauffeur or chauffeur-guide - fly driving without the driving! Alternatively how about joining a sociable guided group journey?

With three luxury rail operators riding the rails in Southern Africa, the Blue Train, Rovos Rail and Shongololo Express, travelling by rail would make a fabulous centrepiece to an amazing holiday.

Lastly, no holiday to South Africa would be complete without some time in a safari lodge. You’ll find Big 5 game reserves almost all over South Africa meaning adding a few days to any holiday is straightforward with our help - speak to one of our travel consultants about the different reserves and the best options for your trip.
