Cons: crowds are at their peak, and accommodation needs to be booked well in advance.

The Amazon Rainforest: May to October

The Amazon is best explored during its dry season, even though it still remains humid and receives occasional rain.

Pros: Lower water levels make trails more accessible, and wildlife is easier to spot along the riverbanks.

Cons: Mosquitoes can still be a nuisance, so make sure you pack the repellent!

Tip: For river cruises, visit during the rainy season (November to April) when water levels rise, allowing boats to explore deeper in the jungle.

The Coast and Lima: December to March

The summer months (December to March) are the best time to visit Peru’s coastal regions, including Lima, Mancora and Paracas.

Pros: Warm, sunny weather perfect for beach days. Lima also bustles with festivals and events during this period.

Cons: It’s not ideal for visiting other regions due to rain in the Andes and Amazon.

Tip: Surf enthusiasts will enjoy the waves during this season, especially in the north.

Seasonal Highlights across Peru

June to August: Peru’s peak tourist season, coinciding with summer in the Northern Hemisphere. This is also the time for vibrant festivals, such as Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun) in Cusco in June.

November to April: The wet season in the Andes and jungle, but it’s the low season for tourism, making it ideal for budget travellers. Machu Picchu is less crowded, though the Inca Trail may be closed for maintenance in February.

December: A festive season, with Christmas celebrations blending traditional and indigenous customs.
