From December to March, Svalbard is a perfect place to spot the magical Northern Lights and if you visit during the Polar Night which lasts until January, they can be spotted at any time of the day. During this season gaze upon a star filled sky and seek out the Aurora Borealis on a snowcat tour, glide across the snow by dog sleds and enjoy a cosy evening in a wilderness cabin and learn about the history of Svalbard.

With the sun making an appearance from mid March, this is the best time to visit Svalbard to experience the spectacular pink horizon next to the bright white snow, before the sun comes out in full in April. This time of year gives a fantastic opportunity to explore the wilderness by dog sled before the snow starts to melt away in time for summer, discover sparkling ice caves created by a glacier while also having the opportunity to spot the Northern Lights come night-time.

A summer adventure to Svalbard from May to October offers a window into this Arctic desert at its most energised. Enjoy breathtaking vistas of mountainous scenery, discover fascinating Arctic wildlife such as Arctic foxes, walrus and perhaps even a polar bear. If you visit between May and mid August, this is the best time to visit Svalbard to enjoy a full 24 hours of daylight under the Midnight Sun.

The shortest season, November in the Arctic offers the beginning of the dark Polar Nights and a wealth of unmissable activities such as flying across the snow on a dog sled and listening to the local myths in a cosy cabin. The first half of the month offers the mystical ‘blue hours’ where the low lying sun creates a magical blue glow across the landscape.
