PASSENGERS NEEDING ASSISTANCE

Travelmarvel welcomes all passengers. Please note:

Passengers with a disability or medical condition requiring assistance must inform Travelmarvel at the time of booking of all important information relating to your health, mobility and fitness which may affect your partial or total participation in the cruise or tour. This information will allow Travelmarvel to ensure the tour you have chosen is suitable and meets your needs. Any changes to health, mobility and fitness must also be reported to Travelmarvel as soon as possible and prior to departure. Where possible Travelmarvel will make reasonable adjustments to the tour to assist you however, it cannot do so if the adjustment required would be unreasonable in all of the circumstances, including if such adjustments would affect your safety and/or the safety and/or enjoyment of other passengers.

If you require assistance or care (such as pushing a wheelchair, assistance with dressing or assistance with walking), you must travel with a companion capable of providing the required assistance or care. Travelmarvel is unable to assist any passenger with walking, dining, boarding or disembarking any transportation vehicles (including river and ocean cruise ships and trains). To safely participate in embarkation and disembarkation you must be able to do so without the need for assistance. You must also be able to do so without unreasonably impacting other passengers’ safety and/or enjoyment.

While Travelmarvel will make reasonable efforts to accommodate the special needs of disabled passengers, it is not responsible for any denial of services by any third party entities it has travel arrangements with, such as carriers, hotels, trains, restaurants or other independent suppliers, or for any additional associated expenses charges by those parties.

Please note coaches, minibuses and 4WD vehicles are not equipped with wheelchair ramps. Many ships require the use of stairs to go between decks, as some do not have elevators. Further, side by side docking may require passengers to climb and descend stairs to cross over vessels to disembark and embark at times. Ships often sail through remote areas that do not have convenient docking facilities. In such instances it will be necessary for passengers to negotiate temporary gangplanks and uneven surfaces. If the crew decide it is not safe for a passenger to negotiate such operations they may require passengers to stay on board. Cabin doors and restrooms may not be wide enough to allow access by standard wheelchairs. Wheelchairs and walkers cannot be carried on coaches, due to space limitations. For safety reasons, passengers in wheelchairs cannot be carried on ramps in ports where the river or ocean cruise ship is at anchor.

Age Restrictions

Children under twelve years of age are not permitted on tours and cruises. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and share their accommodation with an adult.

Health & Fitness

General Physical Fitness
Travelmarvel tours to Egypt and Jordan require a high level of fitness. Our tours involve navigating many uneven surfaces, varied terrain, and extended periods of standing. Sightseeing is mostly conducted on foot, with walks of up to three kilometres on some tours, including stops. On occasion, it may not be possible to opt out of a physically demanding activity once it’s commenced.

Tours may take place in hot, humid, or cold climates, and some destinations may be at high altitudes (up to 3,830 metres). Participants must be able to embark and disembark vehicles and vessels unassisted. Tours in Egypt and Jordan are not suitable for wheelchair users.

Boarding and disembarking the Nile River vessel requires using a gangplank, which may involve crossing through multiple boats. This process is not suitable for passengers with limited mobility.

In Jordan, the tour includes a desert safari in an open-air 4WD vehicle across uneven terrain. Due to the bumpy and unsealed route, travellers with back issues or limited mobility should consult a doctor before booking to ensure suitability. Dust may also irritate contact lens wearers, so glasses are recommended.

SEE YOUR GP

A general practitioner or a travel clinic is the best source of advice on preventative health measures, including vaccinations. We strongly recommend that all guests consult their GP or local travel clinic well in advance to ensure thorough pre-travel preparation. Be sure to bring a copy of your travel itinerary to help guide recommendations for appropriate medications and vaccinations. Ask the practitioner to prepare a medical summary for use in case you need to see a medical professional abroad.

This should include

  • Your name
  • Address and emergency contact
  • Blood type
  • Medical history
  • Current medications and dosages
  • Drug allergies
  • Reasons for any prior hospitalisations
  • A list of vaccinations with dates.

General Health Information

It’s important for you to be as healthy as possible before you travel, and to maintain your health by applying good hygiene practices while on tour. Practising good hygiene is vitally important in stopping the spread of common viral infections such as colds, flu or gastro. Respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses, while usually minor in nature, can spread rapidly within a tour group, and have a major impact on everyone’s enjoyment.

Travelmarvel is committed to reducing the spread of infections on all tours, and asks that you read and follow our recommendations to ensure a healthy, safe and enjoyable holiday for yourself and your fellow travellers.

TRAVELMARVEL HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOL

Travelmarvel has a Health and Safety Protocol that all our Tour Directors are required to follow. If you happen to feel unwell during the tour, please let your Tour Director know so they can support you and help you recover. For more information, please read our Health and Wellbeing information on our website: travelmarvel.com/before-you-travel/health-and-wellbeing

WATER AND FOOD SAFETY

Tap water in Egypt and Jordan is generally not recommended to drink. Refillable filtered water is available throughout your tour. Bottled/filtered water should always be used for cleaning your teeth, unless you are specifically advised the tap water is safe. If you are unsure, please ask your Tour Director. Travelmarvel is committed to reducing waste, beginning with the removal of single-use plastics such as disposable water bottles. Please bring a reusable water bottle, which you can refill throughout your journey. Be mindful of the different meals you will consume from day to day while on holiday. It’s a good idea to pack some medicine to alleviate symptoms should you experience an upset stomach from eating foods that are not usually a part of your regular diet.

Sun Exposure And Dehydration
The weather will be variable on your tour and maintaining appropriate hydration is important. A hat and a good sunscreen are essential for preventing sunburn, even on overcast days.

SLEEP APNOEA
CPAP machines can be accommodated on tour and we require advance notice. Please provide the dimensions, weight and, if possible, the make and model of your machine. This information will be shared with our suppliers to help ensure suitable arrangements can be made. You’ll also need to bring your own power adaptor that’s compatible with local electrical outlets. It is recommended to bring a rechargable battery pack as some places may not operate 24-hour electricity.

info
Medication

If you have a food allergy or medical condition which needs to be managed on tour, please advise your Booking Agent before departure, and inform your Tour Director on arrival. It is also worth packing a small medical kit, as even though there will be pharmacies along your tour, they can be difficult to access, and a prescription may be required for some medications.

Suggested Packing List:

  • A general-purpose antibiotic (e.g. azithromycin)
  • Cold and flu medication
  • Your preferred pain medication
  • Medicine for gastronomic upsets
  • Band aids and blister pads

info
What to Pack

LUGGAGE
Luggage is limited to 23 kilograms per person. Porterage for one suitcase is included at the hotels in the tour price.

CLOTHING
Egypt and Jordan are primarily Islamic nations and thus very conservative, so you should dress accordingly. As a guide, shoulders and knees should always be covered. Women should carry a head scarf to wear upon entry to mosques and other religious buildings. Refrain from wearing shorts as it may limit your entry into religious buildings and other sites. We recommend lightweight clothing, including a sweater or jacket, since the nights can be cool, along with comfortable walking shoes or boots and a hat with a brim.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

We recommend guests do not bring binoculars to Egypt or Jordan as they are likely to be confiscated at customs. Strict rules also apply to electronic devices which could be used for military purposes such as large video cameras and satellite telephones. Hence, guests are advised not to pack such items. It is wise to research local laws before travelling.

Pack A Medical Kit

A small medical kit is recommended for all travellers. Pharmacies will likely stock most basic medicines and supplies but they may be difficult to access. All prescription medication must be accompanied by a prescription and a letter from a doctor stating what the medication is, your required dosage and that it is for your personal use only, as well as your doctor’s contact details. Take only enough medication for your trip.

info
Dietary Requirements

Please advise Travelmarvel of any allergies or dietary requirements at the time of booking and inform your Tour Director upon arrival. Most suppliers require advance notice to accommodate special requests. Travelmarvel will communicate your needs to relevant suppliers; however, please note that while every effort will be made, specific dietary requirements cannot be guaranteed. Limitations may apply due to local availability or supplier capabilities. In some cases, you may be asked to complete a form or waiver.

info
Laundry

Laundry and pressing services are available on board. Price lists will be available onboard the ship.

info
Smoking Policy

Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the ship. Smoking is only permitted in designated outside areas on the deck. Your cooperation in observing the smoking policy is appreciated.

info
Wi-Fi & Internet Access

Wi-Fi is available on board. Service may be intermittent and limited.

info
Payment Methods

Payment to purchase additional drinks, gift shops or any item not included on tour can be made using credit cards (AMEX is not accepted) or cash (Euro, US dollars or Egyptian Pounds).

LOCAL PAYMENTS

Please be aware that while the majority of properties and services on tour accept credit and debit card payments, these may attract additional fees. In addition, some properties do not have card facilities, so we recommend carrying some cash. Your Tour Director can assist you during the tour with locating a bank or ATM where available.
