The mighty Amazon River begins its journey in Peru and snakes its way through the world’s largest rainforest to reach the Atlantic coast of Brazil. Sprawling Manaus is the best connected access point to the jungle, with regular flights from cities across Brazil, as well as a number of international flights. Just outside the city lies the natural phenomenon of the ‘Meeting of the Waters’, where the sand coloured upper reaches of the river merge with the darker Rio Negro. To the south, Alta Floresta is connected by flights from Cuiabá, making for an ideal combination with the Pantanal.
