Amazon Holidays

The largest rainforest in the world, spanning nine countries and covering almost 7 million square kilometres of South America, the size and scale of the Amazon Rainforest is difficult to comprehend. Shared across Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana, the rainforest is home to 10% of the worlds known biodiversity and thousands of fascinating species including pink river dolphins, sloths, anacondas and caiman to name just a few.

There are several possible ways to explore the Amazon, with Trailfinders holidays covering Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia. All four of these countries are home to comfortable jungle lodges which are usually set on quiet riverbanks allowing you to discover this amazing environment for a recommended three nights. Brazil and Peru also offer the chance to journey along sections of the mighty Amazon River on board a cruise, which snakes its way through the dense jungle. There are a selection of ships varying in style, comfort and duration. All Amazon lodge and cruise holidays are inclusive of incredible activities, which typically include jungle hikes, canopy walks, piranha fishing and canoe trips.

  • WHERE TO GO IN THE AMAZON

    Amazon map
    Brazilian Amazon
With almost two thirds of the Amazon located in Brazil, this fascinating region is sure to be a highlight of any Brazil holiday. The Brazilian Amazon can be experienced by either a stay in a jungle lodge or a cruise along the mighty Amazon River. The majority of lodges and cruises are accessible from the sprawling city of Manaus, who's airport is served by several Brazilian cities, but other more remote parts of the Amazon are also accessible, such as Alta Floresta which can offer an incredible alternative. The journey to all lodges is by a road and boat transfer from the starting city, while all cruises depart from Manaus into the jungle wilderness.
    Peruvian Amazon
Covering almost two thirds of Peru, the best way to access the Peruvian Amazon is via a cruise from Iquitos in the north of the country or a stay in a jungle lodge near Puerto Maldonado in the southern Amazon. Puerto Maldonado can be reached by daily flights from either Lima or Cusco, with the journey to the lodge continuing by road and then boat. The highlight of this region is the Tambopata National Reserve, one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world. Most cruises will head deep into the rainforest into the magnificent Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, also known as the mirror forest, with the cruise ships ranging from comfortable riverboats to highly luxurious small ships.
    Ecuadorian Amazon
Covering nearly half of mainland Ecuador, the Ecuadorian Amazon lies to the east of the Andes Mountain Range and is perhaps the most easily accessible region of this remarkable rainforest. Home to the Yasuni National Park, this remote region is accessed by a short flight from Quito to Coca followed by a boat trip along the Napo River into the jungle to reach your chosen lodge where you will enjoy fascinating lodge activities each day.
    Bolivian Amazon
Accessible by a short flight over the Andes from La Paz, the beginning of each journey into the Bolivian Amazon begins in the small town of Rurrenabaque, before a boat trip far into the jungle to your lodge. The extraordinary Madidi National Park is utterly remote, rarely visited and a region for the experienced adventurer. The Bolivian Amazon allows visitors to explore the magnificent ecosystems of the rainforest at fantastic value for money. The intrepid traveller will be rewarded.
