Nepal Holidays

Holidays to Nepal promise snow-capped peaks, medieval temples, high adventure and some of the finest trekking on the planet. Whether you are trekking on Mount Everest, spotting wildlife in Chitwan National Park or rafting white waters this is an adventure holiday that will simply take your breath away.

The capital Kathmandu is surprisingly cosmopolitan given its remote location as decades of international climbing parties, backpackers and  trekkers drawn by the mountain trails have left their indelible stamp on the city. The modern part of Kathmandu boasts a fine selection of restaurants and bars, but the heart of the city feels resolutely older with winding lanes, grand temples and palaces that feel unchanged since Medieval times.

The city is the jumping off point for most adventure holidays in Nepal with rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, canyoning, rock climbing, ballooning and even paragliding on offer.

Undoubtedly though the main draw for most is the trekking in the Himalayas and whether you test yourself on two week trek to Mount Everest Base Camp or simply dip your toe in with a day trek from Pokhara, you will be awe-struck by their majesty.

The Everest and Annapurna regions deliver some of the finest scenery on the planet, from high passes and dramatic valleys to an incredible variety of terrains, all in the shadow of some of the world’s highest peaks.

If you’re a little shorter on time, a week long trek up the Langtang Valley will get you away from the crowds passing through tiny villages and sparsely populated valleys and yet still delivers superlative views of the Ganesh Himal. There's even the chance to take a side trip up to the holy lakes of Gosinkund, site of a famous pilgrimage in August.

If perhaps even a week on the trail seems a little strenuous, the lake side town of Pokhara offers stunning mountain views and can also make a comfortable base for short treks. Poon Hill, reached on a six day loop delivers one of the finest panoramas in the Himalayas with uninterrupted views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhare.

In Chitwan you can track rhinos, leopards, elephants and crocodiles and if you are exceptionally lucky you may catch a glimpse of the royal Bengal tiger.

  • NEPAL HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

    Nepal Holiday highlights map
    Kathmandu
    Kathmandu
Bursting at the seams with ancient palaces, sacred temples and colourful bazaars, Kathmandu boats an incredibly rich cultural heritage. As Nepal’s densely populated capital city, the streets and alleyways are crammed with handcarts, rickshaws and motorbikes. Explore by foot and you are sure to discover hidden courtyards and quieter corners of this bustling, intoxicating city.
    Kathmandu Valley
    Kathmandu Valley
Often referred to as the ‘living museum’ of Nepali culture, the Kathmandu Valley is home to no less than seven UNESCO World Heritage listed groups of monuments and buildings. These world famous historical sites include Patan (known locally as the City of Beauty), an ancient city with a spectacular Durbar Square, and Bhaktapur which boasts some of the finest religious architecture in the country.
    Pokhara
    Pokhara
Surrounded by the snow-capped Himalayas including the mighty and sacred Machhapuchhre, or Fishtail Mountain, Pokhara is known for its magnificent mountain scenery, its beautiful lake and as a good base for trekking. With a stunning location and laidback atmosphere, this sleepy lakeside city is also a popular spot for some rest and relaxation.
    Chitwan National Park
    Chitwan National Park
Chitwan is Nepal’s oldest national park and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. It has a particularly rich variety of wildlife including leopards, the majestic, but elusive, Bengal tiger and one of the last populations of the endangered one-horned Asiatic rhino. The park can be explored in a variety of ways: on foot or even by canoe.
    Tea House Trek
    Tea House Trek
Nepal boasts some of the best trekking in the world and a tea house trek is a popular and authentic way to experience the trails of the lower foothills of the Himalayas – spending each night in simple tea houses (inns). Suitable for those with a moderate level of fitness, admire the spectacular scenery as you trek through rhododendron forests, lush green valleys and remote Sherpa villages.
    Everest Scenic Flight
    Everest Scenic Flight
Nepal promises the roof of the world and delivers spectacularly! The Himalayas form an extraordinary backdrop to the country and a flight over Mount Everest offers you an unforgettable bird’s eye view of this majestic region. Flights depart from Kathmandu early in the morning when the skies are clear to ensure the best possible views of the world’s highest mountain.
