India holidays offer an unbeatable blend of culture, wildlife, beaches and history enveloped with an incredible vibrancy you won’t find elsewhere.

India's star of the show is the Golden Triangle. Wander Old Delhi’s winding alleys, visit the magnificent palaces of Jaipur and marvel at Agra’s breathtaking Taj Mahal. For a taste of India's culture with some downtime added in, head south. Discover Kochi’s photogenic Chinese fishing nets, Puducherry’s bougainvillea draped promenades or the ancient Hindu temple cities of Tamil Nadu. Then relax on a palm fringed beach or aboard a houseboat on Kerala’s backwaters.

Trailfinders offers a wide range of India holidays and we have a dedicated team of destination specialists who are a mine of information about what to do here, often with first-hand travel experience. Whether you want to explore India with a private car and driver, on a sociable small group tour, on a luxury rail journey, or are simply looking for advice on where best to enjoy your Goa beach holiday - they are the perfect people to ask.

WHERE TO GO IN INDIA

Each region of India boasts its own attractions and it’s no exaggeration to say each merits a holiday in its own right. It would be just as easy to spend all your time exploring the princely palaces, tombs and temples of the Golden Triangle as it would to use it discovering the sleepy backwaters, fragrant highlands and golden beaches of Kerala.

Click on the tiles below the map for more details on each India holiday destination. Alternatively, if you are looking for some inspiration, give us a call and speak to one of our expert travel consultants.
Delhi & the Golden Triangle
India’s Golden Triangle is many people's first introduction to the world’s greatest democracy and encompasses several of the nation’s most iconic attractions. Delhi and Jaipur form two points of the triangle with the third, and the undoubted jewel in the crown, being the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Rajasthan & North India
This is the India you’ve probably been dreaming about, a land of bewitching palaces and mystical temples, imposing fortresses and magnificent scenery.
Kolkata & North East India
Experience history and grand colonial landmarks in Kolkata, the erstwhile capital of the British Raj whilst Kaziranga National Park offers ample opportunities for superb wildlife spotting, particularly of the endangered one-horned rhino. Good numbers of Bengal tigers are to be found here too.
India’s Tiger Reserves & Wildlife Sanctuaries
For many people, a visit to India wouldn’t be complete without the opportunity to see the nation’s most magnificent animal – the Bengal tiger. India is home to 70% of the world’s remaining tiger population and whilst the species remains endangered, the country has made huge strides in their conservation over recent years.
Mumbai, Goa & Central India
Welcome to India’s region of contrasts; formerly Bombay, vibrant Mumbai is the fastest moving and most affluent city in India. It is also the country’s commercial capital, earning the nickname of the ‘City of Dreams’. Overlooking the Arabian Sea, magnificent colonial era architecture stands side by side with upscale shopping malls and modern company headquarters.
Kerala & South India
If you want a taste of India’s culture and attractions with a bit of downtime added in, then the South is the place to do it. Whether it’s lazing on a palm tree backed beach in Goa or cruising the serene backwaters of Kerala aboard a traditional houseboat, these experiences allow time to rest and reflect and, more often than not, are the part of the holiday you'll rave about on your return.

OUR RECOMMENDED HOTELS IN INDIA

Maybe you’re looking for a luxury hotel with views of the Taj Mahal or a traditional homestay experience on Kerala’s Backwaters? Or perhaps it’s a heritage hotel in lakeside Udaipur, a comfortable safari lodge in a tiger reserve or a relaxing resort on the beach in Goa.

What you won’t find here are thousands of India hotels to wade through. We have done the hard work for you and selected the best places to stay and our travel consultants are on hand to help, often with first-hand experience.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT INDIA?

The best time to visit India varies by region. North India’s cool season is from October to April while in South India it’s from November to March. Cool does not necessarily mean cold as daytime temperatures remain high, with clear skies and sunshine.

The exception is the far north in the Himalayas. From October to April the nights here are very cold and from December to February the daytime temperature also drops considerably. The summer months bring warmer temperatures, averaging 25°C.

From April to June, with the exception of the Himalayas, India experiences a hot and humid climate by day and night. The monsoon typically falls on North India from July to September, Goa from May to September and South India from June to November. The climate is very humid and wet at this time.

For more information, take a look at our guide to the best time to visit India.

Grab a tuk tuk to Dasawamedh Ghat early evening to witness the daily Ganga Aarti. For a more intimate experience sit on the steps alongside the locals and pilgrims to watch these beautiful rituals.

If staying at certain top end Ranthambore lodges, upgraded options for game drives are available which I highly recommend. These premium game drives use more comfortable vehicles and will be with the lodge's dedicated naturalist/drivers, who are among the best in the reserves.
