On arrival into Cusco airport, to help avoid altitude sickness it is popular to travel straight to the Sacred Valley for several days before taking the train to Machu Picchu. Departing Machu Picchu several trains travel through the magnificent scenery to Cusco, where we recommend spending at least a few days discovering this marvellous region.
