Cambodia Holidays

Holidays to Cambodia reward visitors with truly memorable experiences from awe-inspiring temples and colonial heritage to lush forested mountains and exquisite beaches.

Undoubtedly the main draw for most to Cambodia, if not all of South East Asia, is Angkor Wat. Built between the 9th and 13th Centuries the hundreds of temples that make up the Angkor complex formed the centre of the mighty Khmer Empire. Larger in size than modern-day London, it was lost to the jungle for centuries until it was rediscovered in the 19th Century. The enduring myths and impressive architecture of this ancient lost city still bewitch and enchant travellers to this day.

There's plenty more to this compact little gem of a country than Angkor alone though. The capital Phnom Penh offers colonial architecture, colourful markets and bustling cafés whilst, for the more adventurous, the jungle clad Cardamom Mountains are home to secluded lodges surrounded by rare wildlife and tranquil waterways. To the east you will find cascading waterfalls, tribal communities and elephants in Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri, two of Cambodia's most remote provinces.,/p>

For those who prefer to travel at a more leisurely pace, cruising the Mekong between Cambodia and Vietnam is a popular and memorable way to discover the region’s charms and will visit areas that are otherwise impossible to reach. Lastly don't forget the fabulous beaches! Once a sleepy coastal town, Sihanoukville has undergone extensive development and is now a large, industrial city. Whilst we don't recommend staying here, this is the ideal departure point to head over to the beautiful Koh Rong Archipelago, a string of islands dotted among the emerald waters of the Gulf of Thailand. Here you will find crystal waters, stunning beaches and lush jungle interiors ideal for relaxing and exploring, it's the perfect conclusion to any Cambodia holiday.

  • WHERE TO GO IN CAMBODIA

    Cambodia map
    Phnom Penh
Situated at the confluence of three rivers, the Mekong, the Bassac and the Tonlé Sap, Cambodia’s fast paced capital city is undergoing a modern renaissance with a host of new dining options, boutique shops and riverside bars. It also offers a wealth of history with gleaming temples, colonial remnants and sobering Khmer Rouge era sites, making it a good place to get to grips with this dark time in Cambodia’s past.
    Siem Reap & Angkor
Gateway to the famed temples of Angkor, Siem Reap has developed from a sleepy provincial town to be the epicentre of modern Cambodia with stylish hotels, world-class dining, buzzing nightlife and gorgeous spas. Most visitors are there to visit the spectacular temple complex located just a few miles from the town, but the surrounding province also offers lush rice paddies and floating villages.
    Eastern Cambodia
One of Cambodia’s most uncharted provinces, this remote region boasts fantastic scenery with clear volcanic lakes, raging waterfalls and lush jungle. Here you will find some of Cambodia’s most isolated and diverse tribal communities. It is also home to a number of endangered animals such as the Asian elephant and Irrawaddy dolphin. This adventurous area is the perfect place to discover a hidden side of Cambodia.
    Kep
A seaside retreat for the French elite in the 1960s, Kep suffered at the hands of the Khmer Rouge who destroyed many of the opulent villas. Today the town is returning to its former glory and its relaxed ambience, delicious seafood and spectacular sunsets more than make up for the lack of beaches. A short boat ride away, Koh Tonsai (Rabbit Island) offers stunning white sands while inland the charming riverside town of Kampot is renowned for the excellent pepper grown nearby and its fine but neglected colonial buildings.
    Koh Rong Archipelago
Off Cambodia’s south west coast, accessed from busy Sihanoukville, lie an archipelago of islands dotted among the emerald waters of the Gulf of Thailand. It’s just a short boat ride to lovely islands of Koh Russey and Koh Krabey, or cruise a little further to the pristine shores of Koh Rong where white sands are lapped by turquoise water. These laidback islands are the perfect place to disconnect from daily life as you snorkel in crystalline waters, explore jungle trails or simply relax.
    Cardamom Mountains
Located in the province of Koh Kong, the pristine forest of the Cardamom Mountains is part of one of South-East Asia’s most important ecoregions. The rolling hills are covered with dense rainforest which is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, many of which are endangered; while the peaceful rivers offer pristine mangroves and pretty waterfalls. This area also boasts some unique accommodation, including 4 Rivers Floating Lodge and the luxurious Shinta Mani Wild.
