Lake Maggiore
Nestled at the foot of the Alps and a stone’s throw from Switzerland, Lake Maggiore offers a place of calm and tranquillity. With outstanding blue water and a breathtaking mountainous backdrop, explore the quaint towns and magnificent castles that line the shores. Cruise across to the idyllic Borromean Islands, home to manicured gardens and grand architecture from the 17th Century. Perhaps more than any other, the quaint town of Stresa, with its lakefront sunrise views, captures the elegance and bygone decadence of this delightful corner of the Italian Lakes.
Lake Como
Perched under the towering Rhaetian Alps and nestled between spectacular steep wooded hills, the dark blue waters of Lake Como cast a dramatic form. Marvelled at for their picturesque beauty, the elegant towns of Varenna, Bellagio and Menaggio surround the lake offering an insight into Renaissance architecture. One of the most iconic sites is Villa del Balbianello, the famous background for the James Bond remake of Casino Royale; with its stunning grounds and commanding position, this former monastery can be best admired from the water.
Lake Garda
Italy’s largest lake, Garda commands three distinct regions: Trentino Alt-Adige, Lombardy and the Veneto. Its romantic shores have inspired generations of painters and poets and now attract a cosmopolitan crowd who splendour over its natural beauty. The intensely transparent waters are lined with harbour towns in the dramatic north, known for its breezier climate, adventure walking and palm tree lined esplanades in the south, home to lush groves of olives, citrus trees and pebble beaches.
Lake Iseo
Lesser known but equally as beautiful as the other Italian Lakes, Lake Iseo produces some of the best views and wines in the region.
