Amakhala Bukela Game Lodge

This was my second stay at Amakhala Bukela Game Lodge and it was just as amazing, if not more, than the last.

The staff are incredible and friendly, truly cannot do enough for you. Our ranger was fantastic and ensured everyone got to see what they wanted. He took us to so many areas of the park and was just as excited as us in seeing all the sightings. The game reserve is massive and they have just removed a fence to make it even larger. Despite having gone last year, I went to new parts of the reserve on almost every drive. The lodge groups you up with people checking out on the same day as you and in general, you'll remain with the same group throughout. We also did a bush walk on our first full day, which was incredible and made future game drives even better as we had even more knowledge about the tiniest things. It was run by a guy who has worked in Amakhala for 20+ years, and I felt super safe throughout. I would highly recommend it.

The rooms are beautiful and you really feel like you're part of the bush! The tents are warm and cosy no matter the weather. The views are brilliant and you feel like you've got a lot of privacy. The bathrooms all have a bath and a shower which can be opened to the elements if you wish. We went in May and it certainly was cooler in the mornings and evenings, but our heating was always on when returned, there is a log burner and electric blankets to keep you toasty. The main area of the camp is really welcoming and there's lots of different areas to sit out and enjoy the surroundings. They even have a camera at the watering hole so that when you're sitting at the bar you can see it, meaning you can just stroll over and not miss the action.

The food is good with a different lunch and dinner (four course if you wish) menu every day. One guest was vegan and had his own menu with multiple choices, plus was catered for when we were out on drives for morning tea and sundowners.

Another amazing stay at Amakhala Bukela, I can't recommend it for an Eastern Cape safari enough!

Top tip: Go on the game drives rain or shine! One morning only six of us went out in the whole park due to bad weather and we managed to see the cheetahs catching their breakfast. A once in a lifetime moment and we were the envy of the rest of the camp. Plus, it was bright and sunny by the time we got back!
