The Estates at Pangkor Laut Resort, Pulau Pangkor Laut

Pangkor Laut Resort is an idyllic, single island resort, a 10 minute resort speedboat transfer from the mainland. The resort is the only operation on the island and takes up a small percentage of the land meaning you are enveloped in a wonderful rainforest environment home to hornbills, monkeys, wild boar (they swam over from the mainland during Covid), flying foxes (resident in a tree in the resort) and myriad butterflies and birds.

The Estates

The Estates are a separate, exclusive part of the resort, on the same side of the island as Emerald Bay. They are a five minute drive to the main resort area (and a car is on call at all times).

They offer stunning luxurious seclusion (with the option to use all the resort facilities and restaurants too) and would be ideal for a multi-generational holiday, or a very special honeymoon.

There are eight Estates in total housing between one to four bedrooms, separate living and dining pavilions, as well as a private pool with dramatic views; all set across acres of pristine rainforest. Three of the Estates are on a beach, the others are set in the hillside.

Each estate comes with a butler who will set up the pool area for you each day, serve meals (in your private dining room that can be enclosed with AC, or open to the elements), and generally help with anything you need. Each estate also has a private chef who will cook breakfast, lunch and dinner, should you want them too. Of course, you are free to venture out to the hotel’s restaurants instead.

I stayed in Estate 5, which was a three-bedroom estate in the hillside, with an incredible view of sunset each evening. The bedrooms are all free standing units, huge in space with walk in-showers, his and hers dressing areas, a desk, daybed and high ceilings. Some bedrooms also have outside Jacuzzis.

Top tip: Consider combining five nights in a an overwater villa at Pangkor Laut with five nights in the Estates for a truly memorable resort experience.
