72 Hours in Hong Kong & New Zealand Discovery

Day 1  Hong Kong, China                    
Upon arrival into Hong Kong, transfer to your hotel where your afternoon is at leisure. Why not head to Kowloon for an authentic taste of Hong Kong, discover some of the cities famous dishes and sample a range of delicious street food.

Day 2  Hong Kong                  
This morning, join a private day tour to explore Hong Kong Island for an insightful introduction to the city. Take the famous Peak Tram to the summit of Victoria Peak for incredible panoramic views of the city, ride the Star Ferry and learn about Hong Kong's history and culture as you walk through the bustling city streets. Top off your experience enjoying some tasty local street food for lunch. The rest of the afternoon is yours to continue exploring this exciting city. Perhaps head over to central Kowloon and visit Temple Street Market, selling everything from unique jade to antiques, clothes or stunning artwork - you can be sure to come away with plenty of souvenirs for home.

Day 3  Hong Kong              
Today is at leisure to explore the city at your own pace. Work your way round the local markets trying delicious delicacies or perhaps spend the day on Lantau Island where you can discover a different landscape of dramatic mountains and travel to the impressive Big Buddha statue. This evening, soak up the atmosphere at an open-air hawker court whilst enjoying some delicious dumplings, before heading out on the waters of Victoria Harbour. With uninterrupted views of the glittering skyline, enjoy a spectacular light show.

Day 4  Hong Kong to Auckland, New Zealand            
Transfer to the airport for you onward flight to Auckland.

Day 5  Auckland            
Welcome to Auckland. Upon arrival, make your way to your hotel before exploring this bustling city.

Day 6  Auckland            
Discover this cosmopolitan city’s history and culture on a morning tour. Admire the picturesque suburb of Ponsonby and the Auckland Harbour Bridge en route to the North Shore. Stroll on the beautiful beach before heading back towards the city taking in the panoramic city skyline from Mount Victoria.

Days 7-8  Auckland to Coromandel Peninsula  
Pick up your car and drive to the seaside haven of Pauanui in the Coromandel Peninsula. An area synonymous with long stretches of golden beaches, gorgeous scenery and great surfing spots. Whilst you’re here, perhaps venture out to the nearby landmark of Cathedral Cove on kayaks to take in this dramatic coastline from a different perspective.

Days 9-10  Coromandel Peninsula to Rotorua      
Drop off your car in the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua, home to steaming hot springs, bubbling mud pools and tremendous geysers.

Day 11  Rotorua to Wellington      
Make your way to the airport for your short flight to New Zealand’s capital, Wellington. Spend the afternoon uncovering the museums and gourmet cafés of this dynamic city.

Day 12  Wellington    
Enjoy a full day at leisure. Perhaps take the Wellington Cable Car up the mountain for sweeping views or visit the stunning Botanical Gardens.

Days 13  Wellington to Kaikōura          
Journey by ferry across the Cook Strait to Picton, where you will disembark and then board the scenic Coastal Pacific train. Meandering along rugged coastline, where the mountains meet the sea, enjoy the striking scenery on one of the most stunning stretches of rail in New Zealand.

Days 14  Kaikōura            
With a full day at your disposal, explore the picture-perfect seaside town of Kaikōura, famed for its abundant marine life. Join a whale watching cruise to see these magnificent animals in the wild.

Days 15-16  Kaikōura to Christchurch        
Board the Coastal Pacific train once again and continue to Christchurch. Enjoy discovering this revitalised and arty city as well as its fantastic culinary scene. Make sure to hop on the gondola for sweeping views of the skyline or the historic tram, for a ride through the vibrantly coloured facades of New Regent Street.

Day 17  Christchurch to Franz Josef        
Rise early to board the TranzAlpine train to Greymouth. This iconic journey is one of the most picturesque rail routes in the world, passing jaw-dropping mountain scenery via Arthur’s Pass. Arrive at lunchtime and pick up your car, before continuing on the scenic drive to Franz Josef.

Day 18  Franz Josef            
This picturesque village is surrounded by rainforest and sits close to the base of the stunning Franz Josef Glacier. Opt to take to the skies by helicopter and experience an exhilarating hike across the ice.

Day 19  Franz Josef to Wānaka        
Today, experience one of the most breathtaking drives on your journey, as you meander down the west coast. In Wānaka, perhaps kayak on the crystal clear lake and enjoy the lakeside cafés.

Day 20  Wānaka to Queenstown            
This morning, try to spot the friendly buff weka bird, and admire the incredible alpine views around you. Later, drive the short distance to Queenstown via the spectacular Crown Range Road.

Day 21  Queenstown            
This alpine haven offers a wide range of activities and hiking opportunities as well as a plethora of fantastic dining options. Stroll the quaint streets of Arrowtown and visit iconic viewpoints before a cruise on the mighty Lake Wakatipu. Later, choose to take a ride on the Skyline Gondola to the top of Bob’s Peak in time to watch the sunset over The Remarkables mountain range.

Day 22  Queenstown            
Head out on a cruise to experience the awe-inspiring scenery of Milford Sound, dominated by the imposing Mitre Peak. Journey through scenic landscapes of thundering waterfalls and soaring mountains in comfort, before enjoying a small boat cruise below the towering peaks of the fiord.

Days 23  Queenstown            
Drop off your car at Queenstown airport in time for your flight home.
