Itinerary
Day 1 Tokyo to Shibu Onsen
Take the train to Nagano to explore the 7th Century Zenkoji Temple, before continuing by local train to Shibu Onsen to settle into your ryokan.
Day 2 Shibu Onsen
The hot springs act as a magnet to entire troops of macaques. Affectionately known as ‘snow monkeys’ and accustomed to humans, their amusing antics as they play in and around the warm water can be viewed from close quarters. Later, perhaps visit the town of Obuse, where Hokusai, painter of The Great Wave, lived.
Day 3 Shibu Onsen to Tokyo
Have one more soak in an onsen before taking the train back to Tokyo.
