Medieval France: Toulouse & Carcassonne by Rail

Days 1-4  Toulouse  
Arrive into Toulouse and make your way to your hotel. Known as ‘La Villa Rose’ due to the pink, terracotta bricks used across many of the city’s old buildings. Wander the quaint streets and visit the delightful boutiques and cafés. See historic sights such as the Romanesque Basilica of Saint-Sernin and medieval Jacobins' Church. Sample local delicacies at the Victor Hugo Market, with a wide range of stalls selling meats, cheeses and baked goods, then take a relaxing walk along the banks of the Garonne River to enjoy scenic views of the city.

Day 5  Toulouse to Carcassonne      
Hop on board a train and unwind in the comfort of your first-class seat as scenes of rolling hills unfold through your window before arriving into the magnificent medieval, fortress of Carcassonne.

Days 6-7  Carcassonne  
Spend the day getting to know this UNESCO World Heritage Site as you walk along the ramparts, taking in panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Stroll the fairytale streets of the walled city stopping at charming French cafés and restaurants as you explore. Step back in time and enter fascinating historic sites such as the impressive castle of Château Comtal and the magnificent 11^th Century Basilica of Saints Nazarius and Celsus. Depart Carcassonne for you onward journey the following day.
