A Stroll in the Italian Dolomites

Day 1  Ortisei    
Arrive in Venice and board a train to Bolzano before transferring to your hotel in Ortisei. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, Ortisei is the perfect base for exploring Val Gardena and beyond, with many walking routes beginning in the village itself.  

Day 2  Alpe di Siusi    
Today, take the gondola to the breathtaking Alpe di Siusi. Europe’s largest high alpine plateau, offering unparalleled views.  

Day 3  Rifugio Resciesa    
Set out on a high mountain walk and take the funicular to the popular Rifugio Resciesa. Wander a little further for panoramic views that stretch as far as the main Alpine ridge or complete a full loop to see the gorgeous surrounding peaks unfold. After your walk, take the funicular back down to the valley floor.  

Day 4  Bolzano    
Catch the bus to Bolzano with your included travel pass. Explore the arcaded medieval centre, Franciscan monastery, and charming boutiques. Perhaps visit the Museum of Archaeology and see the famous Copper Age Iceman.  

Day 5  Castelrotto    
You may wish to take a morning walk through Val d’Anna, a lovely, shaded trail where you can enjoy the rushing waters of a mountain stream. This afternoon, visit Castelrotto, regarded as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages.  

Day 6  Selva    
Today, venture a little further tracing the path of the historic Ferata de Gherdeina. This former railway line trundles down the valley from Selva to Ortisei.

Day 7  Santa Cristina    
This morning, embark on a valley walk following the ‘Raida dl luech’, a beautiful loop that begins in the village centre. Cross over the valley, pass a picturesque waterfall, and admire stunning views over St Cristina. See the world’s largest hand-crafted nativity scene, before heading back to Ortisei.  

Day 8  Ortisei  
Transfer to Bolzano and take the train to Venice in time for your flight home.
