Italian Lakes & Swiss Alps

Days 1-2  Verona, Italy  
Fly to Verona, a lovely UNESCO World Heritage listed city. Over the next couple of days take a scenic stroll over the grand Ponte Pietro, admire the balcony and statue of Juliet at the gothic ‘Casa di Giulietta’ and visit both the impressive Roman amphitheatre and the medieval fortress of Castel San Pietro.      

Days 3-5  Verona to Lake Garda  
Arrive into Lake Garda after a scenic train journey through Italy’s lake region. Make the most of the historic charms of the ancient villages surrounding the lake such as Sirmione and Limone Sul Garda. Why not ride the phenomenal Malcesine Monte Baldo Cable Car, transporting you to a stunning mountain top?  

Day 6  Lake Garda to Milan      
After a leisurely breakfast, take the train to Milan. Wander the cobbled streets around the ‘Golden Triangle’ or visit one of the many museums and galleries, exhibiting the work of some of the world’s greatest artists including Leonardo da Vinci’s worldfamous masterpiece, ‘The Last Supper’.      

Days 7-8  Milan to Lake Como  
Enjoy the dramatic scenery of Italy’s lake region from the train before arriving into the picturesque Lake Como, arguably the most stunning of Italy’s lakes. Perhaps take the ferry over to the popular town of Bellagio and explore the beautiful villa gardens.

Days 9-10  Lake Como to Lugano, Switzerland     
Journey by rail to Lugano, a lovely town overlooking the glistening waters of Lake Lugano, bordered by pretty countryside dotted with enchanting villages. Discover the lively café culture or take a cable car to the summit of Monte Bré. Over the next week, use your included First Class Swiss Travel Pass to explore the Swiss surrounding areas by train, bus or boat.  

Day 11  Gotthard Panorama Express  
Today, board the iconic Gotthard Panorama Express to Fluelen, passing dramatic mountain scenery and travelling through loop tunnels along the way. Upon arrival, board a steamboat and drift down spectacular Lake Lucerne to Lucerne Pier.

Day 12  Lucerne  
Discover the city’s most famous landmark, the wooden Chapel Bridge and explore the streets, galleries and museums of the charming old town.

Days 13-15  Lucerne to Interlaken      
Travel by rail to the traditional town of Interlaken, set in a beautiful valley between the waters of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Why not take a short train journey to historic Thun or visit nearby Jungfraujoch, one of Switzerland’s highest peaks.      

Day 16  Fly home      
Transfer by rail to Zurich in time for your flight home.
