Itinerary
Fly to Brindisi and pick up your car, before driving north to Polignano a Mare, known for its picturesque coves and beaches.
Days 2-3 Polignano a Mare
Spend the day enjoying its secluded beaches, cliff-sided coves and swim in its natural swimming pools. Later, cool down with a creamy gelato, as you sunbathe under the warm Mediterranean sun. During your stay here perhaps also visit Monopoli, just a short drive away, known for its charming old town with cobblestone streets, colourful street markets and grand cathedral.
Day 4 Polignano a Mare to Matera
Drive inland to the ancient city of Matera, thought to be one of the world’s longest continuously inhabited human settlements. Lose yourself amongst the myriad of buildings and traditional cave dwellings that tumble down its hillside setting.
Day 5 Matera
Today, set off on an exciting walking tour around Matera, admiring its famous sassi cave-dwellings and learning about its fascinating evolution. Later, perhaps relax with a drink as the sun sets.
Days 6-8 Matera to Itria Valley
Head south to central Puglia and enjoy the next two days at leisure, perhaps visit the many wineries, cheese and olive farms that dot the countryside or relax on nearby beaches. An absolute must do whilst here is to head to Alberobello – an UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its trulli houses with their distinct conical roofs.
Days 9-11 Itria Valley to Lecce
Head back towards the coast to the city of Lecce. Enjoy exploring this enticing city as you head out on a small group walking tour to discover its many ornate palaces and churches, as well as the impressive Roman amphitheatre.
Days 12-14 Lecce to Otranto
Today, take a short drive to the vibrant coastal town of Otranto. Perched between the glistening waters of the Ionian and Adriatic, it provides the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing final few days of your Puglian adventure. Perhaps explore the coastal road between Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca, one of Italy’s most scenic drives or opt to make the most of this time relaxing in the sun.
Day 15 Fly home
Drive to Brindisi airport and drop off your car in time for your flight home.
