Norway's Fjords & Coastline

Day 1  Bergen        
Arrive into Bergen and collect your car. Spend the day in the historical area of Bryggen, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Venture through narrow cobblestoned lanes adorned with museums, shops and galleries that leads to the picturesque harbour front and perhaps take a short drive to see the Fantoft Stave Church. In the evening take the Fløibanen funicular up Mt Fløyen for beautiful sunset panoramas.        

Day 2  Bergen to Balestrand      
Drive to Sognefjord, boasting some of Norway’s most spectacular scenery. Arrive at your hotel in the fjord village of Balestrand.  

Day 3  Balestrand        
Spend today exploring Norway’s longest fjord. Take a fjord cruise surrounded by towering peaks, visit Fjaerland for impressive Boyabreen glacier, embark on an exhilarating rib safari, drive to Utsikten viewpoint for incredible views or simply relax amongst the beautiful landscape.        

Day 4  Balestrand to Loen      
Enjoy a scenic drive through to Loen in Nordfjord.

Day 5  Loen        
Spoilt with majestic mountains, glaciers and emerald lakes, there is plenty to explore in Nordfjord. With Loen as your base perhaps take the Loen Skylift into the mountains for incredible hikes or the Via Ferrata for even more adventure. The impressive UNESCO World Heritage listed Geirangerfjord can be reached by car or an optional car ferry from Hellesylt which sails through this mighty fjord. Perhaps drive to Briksdalsbreen glacier which is one of the many arms of the expansive Jostedalsbreen glacier.        

Day 6  Loen to Alesund        
Travel onwards to Alesund. Known for its art nouveau architecture this beautiful town is a delight to wander and discover its quaint restaurants and shops. Explore this enchanting city by kayak or for the best views visit Aksla viewpoint at sunset.        
Day 7  Alesund to Kristiansund        
Continue north to Kristiansund. Today, drive the iconic Atlantic Ocean Road that traverses over picturesque islands.  

Day 8  Kristiansund to Trondheim
Drive to Trondheim, the former Viking capital of Norway.  

Day 9  Trondheim        
Spend the day exploring the many sights of the city. Visit Nidaros Cathedral, an important pilgrimage sites that’s transformed over the centuries from a simple wooden chapel to a grand gothic cathedral that you see today. Perhaps hire a bike and use the ‘Trampe’ bike lift, visit the plethora of cosy cafes and restaurants.

Days 10–11  Trondheim to Bergen        
This morning board your Hurtigruten cruise. Spend the day sailing along Norway’s beautiful coastline. Enjoy the onboard facilities and settle down for the night before disembarking back in Bergen early afternoon.

Day 12  Bergen        
Enjoy one final morning in the city before dropping off your car for your onward journey.
