Coastal Algarve & Fisherman's Trail

Day 1  Praia da Luz
Arrive in Praia da Luz, a charming beach resort area just west of Lagos. Use today to settle in, perhaps relaxing on one of its golden bays.

Day 2  Praia da Luz
This morning, catch the bus to Lagos (payable locally) to explore this historic harbour town, wandering its maze of streets and admiring its Moorish architecture and centuries-old fort. Once you’ve explored, begin your hike along the Fisherman’s Trail, soaking up the beautiful sea cliffs and beaches along the coast back to Praia da Luz. Along the way, take in the striking rock formations of Ponta de Piedade as well as Rocha Negra, a fantastic viewpoint.

Day 3  Praia da Luz to Salema
Continue along the Fisherman’s Trail today to enter the wilder, rugged west. As you go, why not take a break in the charming fishing village of Burgau? From here, continue along scenic clifftops before heading inland to loop around to Salema by road and relax with a stay close to the beach.

Day 4  Salema    
Enjoy a leisurely circular walk today, giving you plenty of time to also explore Salema where you will find rows of traditional fishermen’s cottages and seafront restaurants. The walking route follows inland tracks across the hills to the village of Figueira. Return to the coast and pick up the Fisherman’s trail for unmissable panoramas. Before returning to Salema, discover the serene and secluded Figueira Beach.

Day 5  Salema to Vila do Bispo    
Take a short transfer before starting today’s walk past glorious beaches and bays including Furnas, Zaival, Ingrina, and Praia da Barranco. Here, turn inland to hike through hills towards the small town of Vila do Bispo where you will stay overnight.

Day 6  Vila do Bispo to Sagres    
Return to the sea along the Fisherman’s Trail as peaceful rural tracks give way to rockier coastal terrain as you approach Cabo de São Vicente, a dramatic headland. Complete your journey to Sagres by bus or taxi (payable locally).

Day 7  Sagres    
Spend the day discovering Sagres, a characterful coastal town with a pretty harbour. Alternatively, follow the recommended headland route to further soak up the incredible views.

Day 8  Sagres    
Make your own way to Faro airport for your onward travels.
