Porto and The Douro Valley with Villa

Day 1  Porto      
Make your way to your hotel before heading out to explore the colourful Ribeira waterfront. Cross the impressive Luís I Bridge and, if you’re feeling energetic, climb the stairs to the pedestrianised top level for spectacular city views. Ride the cable car down the other side to walk the wide waterside promenade, soaking up the character of the colourful houses and narrow streets.

Day 2  Porto      
Spend the morning wandering the manicured lawns and flower lined walkways of the Palácio de Cristal Gardens, an iconic way to while away the hours since the 19^th Century. Dotted with sculptures, fountains and olive trees these wonderful gardens also offer some of the city’s best views over the Douro River to Gaia and beyond. Why not book an afternoon tour of one of the famous port cellars? Learn about the history of the drink’s production and try the different varieties to find your favourite.

Day 3  Porto      
Perhaps start your day exploring the historic centre on the north side of the Douro River. Stop off at one of the world’s most famous bookshops - Livraria Lello dazzles with stained glass windows and Art Nouveau architecture, and a remarkable staircase said to have inspired the Hogwarts Library in Harry Potter. Pick up a book before joining your group Porto Food Tour in the afternoon, where you'll discover delightful local eateries and delicious Portuguese treats.

Days 4-10  Douro Valley    
Head back to the airport to pick up your car and then journey into the magical Douro Valley, the oldest demarcated wine region in the world. Check in to your private villa, a home away from home that will serve as the perfect base to explore this fascinating region. As the sun sets, take in the dramatic views over the vineyards and olive groves from the comfort of your pool.    

By day simply relax in the villa, take advantage of the villa’s complimentary tour inclusions or head off in the car. Meander along the path of the river as it carves through the mountains and wonder at the dramatic terrace valley walls. Watch iconic rabelo boats float down the river, just as they have done for centuries, call in at picture perfect villages that dot the landscape, and of course visit a vineyard for a tasting.  After a day exploring return to the comforting serenity of your villa. Chose to prepare dinner in the well-equipped kitchen using fresh local produce, or simply take advantage of the garden and games room while the villa’s cook service prepares a delicious meal for you.

Day 11  Douro Valley to Porto    
Return to Porto to drop off the car in time for the onward flight.
