Itinerary
Arrive in S'Agaró at any time.
Day 2 S’Agaró to La Fosca
This pleasant first day’s walk combines sections along the beach, seafront promenades, and a lovely coastal path past rocky coves. You walk across the sand of Sa Cunca Bay to Playa de Aro’s harbour, and from there follow the 2-kilometre promenade to pick up the Cami de Ronda, a beautiful coastal path originally used by the anti-smuggling patrols that watched the coves above which the path passes. After a final section along the promenade at Palamós, you reach La Fosca and the Hotel Ancora.
Day 3 La Fosca to Calella de Palafrugell
From La Fosca a memorable walk leads through a small pine wood to the authentic, protected fishing hamlet of S'Alguer. The path then heads inland, across fields and through hills clad in pine, olive and oak trees, before returning to the coast for a splendid, and very scenic, section along the coastal path, passing numerous secret coves. Your destination is Calella de Palafrugell and either Hotel Sant Roc or Hotel Alga.
Day 4 Calella de Palafrugell
Spend the day relaxing in Calella, or follow our interesting and varied inland circuit, taking in the Botanical Gardens at Cap Roig, set on a terraced hillside overlooking the sea; the town of Palafrugell and its lively market (closed Mondays); and a vía verde – a disused railway route now used by walkers and cyclists. You can shorten the route by not visiting Palafrugell.
Day 5 Calella de Palafrugell to Llafranc
Today’s walk is a short one, following the well-waymarked coastal path from Calella to Llafranc, where your next base – either Hotel Terramar or Hotel Llafranch – is located close to the waterfront. For far-reaching views, we recommend continuing beyond Llafranc up to the lighthouse on the headland.
Day 6 Llafranc to Aiguablava
This walk is rockier than previous days but very rewarding. The first of several highlights comes early on, when you reach the San Sebastián lighthouse to be rewarded with spectacular views over the sea and inland across to the Pyrenees. You then follow the coastal path from the idyllic bay of Cala Pedrosa (a good spot for swimming), past a pine forest, to the headland of La Musclera, another pleasant spot to sit and take the sun before rising once more and continuing to the lovely, sandy bay at Tamariu (complete with a fish restaurant). This is the perfect setting for a fresh fish lunch and a dip in the sea before setting off for the short walk which finishes with a short uphill section to Aiguablava and the Hotel Aigua Blava.
Day 7 Aiguablava
Choose to relax at Aiguablava, or walk to medieval Begur, a charming town with a ruined castle from which you can look across to the sea. Our notes lead you down from Begur on tranquil woodland tracks to explore the rugged headland, taking in the beautiful bays of Aiguafreda and Sa Tuna (complete with a restaurant where you could stop for a seafood lunch – pay locally) and returning via Mas d’en Pinc, the former home of dancer Carmen Amaya. To shorten the route, opt to take a taxi (pay locally) between Aiguablava and Begur.
