Bilbao & Madrid by Rail

Days 1-3  Bilbao
Fly to Bilbao, the hub of Spain’s Basque Country. Start your explorations in the historic ‘Seven Streets’ of Casco Viejo, Bilbao’s atmospheric old town and make sure to indulge in pintxos (the Basque version of tapas) at the Mercado de la Ribera market. Later, perhaps visit the magnificent Guggenheim Museum, a symbol of modern art famed for its groundbreaking architecture which houses a wealth of masterpieces. Enjoy a walk along the striking Vizcaya Bridge and admire views from the Artxanda Funicular. If time allows, a day out of the city to the rolling hills of La Rioja’s vineyards is well worth the trip for its gorgeous views and delightful wine.

Days 4-6  Bilbao to Madrid
Board your train to Spain’s thriving capital city. Discover the iconic Plaza de Cibeles, home to a beautiful palace and fountain, before admiring the incredible art collection in the Prado Museum. Maybe wander down the famous Gran Vía, the capital’s lively main street and visit the impressive Royal Palace, the largest palace in Western Europe. Experience Madrid’s renowned gastronomy on an included tour, exploring some of the best tapas bars, tucked away downside streets whilst you hear of the city’s fascinating history.

Day 7  Fly home
