Cities of Northern Spain: Bilbao & Santander

Days 1-3  Bilbao  
Fly to Bilbao. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Once checked in, explore the sights of this magnificent city. Meander the historic ‘Seven Streets’ of Casco Viejo, Bilbao’s atmospheric old town, and perhaps visit the great international symbol of modern art that is the Guggenheim Museum. This impressive titanium, limestone and glass structure is hailed as one of the most important buildings of the 20th Century and houses a wealth of masterpieces. The following day, discover the gastronomy of the city and join a local chef on a walking tour as you stroll alongside the Nervion River, stopping at terraces and bars trying delicious tapas and local beverages along the way. Enjoy your final day in Bilbao at your leisure, sample more of the delicious cuisine and continue to soak up the fabulous architecture.          

Days 4-6  Bilbao to Santander  
This morning, pick up your car and embark on the picturesque journey to Santander. Spend the next few days here soaking in the history. Wander through Paseo de Pereda gardens which will lead you to the compact and historic city centre. Ensure to visit Plaza Porticada, one of the liveliest and symbolic areas of the city, having been rebuilt as the new city centre after fires in 1941. Santander also boasts a seaside location, so benefits from lovely sea views and traditional fish dishes such as rabas (fried squid) and mejillones (mussels), make sure you try as much as possible! In the evenings, take to the energetic Plaza de Cañadío square, share some tapas and venture to the numerous bars.

Day 7  Fly home
Enjoy your final morning before taking once more scenic drive back to Bilbao to drop off your car in time for your flight home.
