Itinerary
Fly to Zurich and pick up your car to head to your hotel. Wander the historic old town or perhaps even make a day trip to Europe’s biggest waterfall, Rhine Falls before dining on delicious local cuisine back in Zurich.
Day 2 Zurich to Montreux
Journey towards the shores of beautiful Lake Geneva. On arrival in Montreux explore the quaint old town or meander along the shoreline to the iconic statue of Freddie Mercury, the town’s most famous former resident.
Day 3 Montreux Riviera
Spend the day exploring the lush Montreux Riviera at leisure. The famous cheese factory in the medieval town of Gruyeres is located just 30 minutes north of Montreux. There are also plenty of opportunities for walking amongst verdant pastures complete with authentic wooden chalets and picturesque views.
Day 4 Montreux to Zermatt
Today’s drive takes you through the mountainside towns and ancient vineyards of the Rhone Valley and the Valais Wine Route. The alpine resort town of Zermatt is totally car-free so park in nearby Tasch and continue the journey by shuttle train, allowing you to gaze in wonder at the Matterhorn as it emerges above the town. With over 250 miles of marked hiking, biking and mountain trails take a moment to breathe in the natural beauty.
Day 5 Zermatt
After spending the morning exploring Zermatt, board the Gornergrat Railway Gourmet Train for a 6 hour culinary extravaganza. Take in the majesty of the alpine surroundings and the Matterhorn, while a different culinary experience is served at each stop.
Day 6 Zermatt to Interlaken
Head back to Tasch to pick up your car and continue the journey to Interlaken. Located between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz it is the gateway to the three famous peaks of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Spend the afternoon exploring the town and perhaps join a boat cruise or take a refreshing dip in the lake.
Day 7 Interlaken
Why not head to the mountains via scenic train and cable car as you make your way above the clouds to Europe’s highest altitude railway station at Jungfraujoch. This unforgettable train journey takes you through the centre of the Eiger itself as well as witnessing the spectacular sight of Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps.
Day 8 Interlaken to Lucerne
Travel to Lucerne, a pretty town sitting below Mount Pilatus, home to Switzerland’s longest toboggan run and numerous hiking trails, all with fantastic views of Lake Lucerne below.
Day 9 Fly home
After breakfast head to Lucerne’s most famous landmark, the wooden Chapel Bridge before driving back to Zurich for your flight home.
