Days 2-3 Kathmandu
Arrive in Kathmandu. Begin with a prenight before meeting your group the following evening.
Day 4 Kathmandu to Birethanthi
Fly to Pokhara and transfer to Birethanthi for an optional warm up hike to Tomijung, a Gurung village.
Day 5 Birethanthi to Banthanti
The trek begins following the Burungdi river upstream. Climb steep stairs through terraced hillsides to Banthanti.
Day 6 Banthanti to Upper Ghorepani
Trek through rhododendron forest and across suspension bridges. Emerge from the forest at Ghorepani to splendid mountain vistas. Continue to Upper Ghorepani.
Day 7 Upper Ghorepani to Chuili
For a spectacular sunrise take an optional ascent of Poon Hill (3,210m). Follow a ridge to a pass, cut through forest and past teahouses. Descend to a stream and climb to Tadapani for superb views. From here, descend to Chuili.
Day 8 Chuili to Chhomrong
Descend steeply through the forest to the Siprong Khola river. Make a steep ascent to Gurjung before continuing to Chhomrong, the last permanent settlement.
Day 9 Chhomrong to Dobhan
Cross the Chhomrong River and climb to Sinuwa to enter the main Modi River valley. Descend through dense jungle to Bamboo, a cluster of lodges surrounded by bamboo thickets. Reach Dobhan, another forest clearing with several teahouses.
Day 10 Dobhan to Machhapuchhare Base Camp
Continue through forest, before the trail gets steeper and rockier past Hinko Cave, where the first basecamp expeditions spent the night. Crossing a ravine, the trail climbs through boulders. After lunch at Deurali the valley broadens and the scenery becomes wilder. From Deurali, continue the climb to Machhapuchhare Base Camp (3,700m).
Day 11 Machhapuchhare Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp
In the morning, walk to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m). Spend the day surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of some of the world’s highest mountains.
Day 12 Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo
Entering the forest, descend slowly and carefully on a rocky trail back to Bamboo.
Day 13 Bamboo to Jhinnudanda
Climb up to Sinuwa, then down to the river and climb up stone steps to Chomro. A final steep descent brings us to Jhinnudanda. Visit the nearby hot springs if you wish.
Day 14 Jhinnudanda to Pokhara
Trek through the Modi River valley down to our transport back to Pokhara.
Day 15 Pokhara
Enjoy a day relaxing in Pokhara. Perhaps take a rowing boat across Lake Phewa and walk to the hilltop World Peace Pagoda for fantastic lake views. There are plenty of shops and a traditional bazaar for souvenirs. Alternatively, visit the International Mountain Museum and the Gurkha Museum.
Day 16 Pokhara to Kathmandu
Fly to Kathmandu. Enjoy a free afternoon, visit the monkey temple at Swayambhunath, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world at Boudhanath, or the Hindu temple in the valley at Pashupatinath.
