Itinerary
Day 2 Negombo
Welcome to Sri Lanka. Upon arrival at Colombo airport, transfer to your hotel in nearby Negombo.
Day 3 Negombo to Nuwara
Eliya Leave Negombo and drive to the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea country. Stop en route at Kitulgala, a location for the 1957 movie ‘Bridge on the River Kwai’. On arrival in Nuwara Eliya, take a walk around the sights and enjoy the scenery.
Day 4 Horton Plains NP
Set off early this morning to Horton Plains National Park for a six mile hike to the edge of the cliff at World’s End and on to the lovely Baker’s Falls. Return to Nuwara Eliya and enjoy the afternoon at leisure.
Day 5 Nuwara Eliya to Kandy
Head to the hill country capital of Kandy with a stop at a tea factory en route.
Day 6 Kandy
Tantalise your taste buds on a culinary tour of Kandy. Visit a local restaurant specialising in Sinhalese dishes, before sampling some delectable Kandyan street food. Later enjoy a show of Sri Lankan dance and drumming before visiting the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
Day 7 Kandy to the Cultural Triangle
Drive north to the Cultural Triangle, with an optional stop on the way at a spice garden.
Day 8 Sigiriya & Minneriya NP
This morning visit Sigiriya and climb to the top of this impressive rock fortress. In the afternoon, spot elephants and other wildlife on a game drive in Minneriya National Park.
Day 9 Polonnaruwa
Spend the morning exploring the former capital city of Polonnaruwa, built during the 11th and 12th Centuries and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The afternoon is at leisure.
Day 10 Cultural Triangle to Trincomalee
Drive to Trincomalee on the east coast and check into your beach hotel.
Days 11-14 Trincomalee
Enjoy a few days relaxing by the pool or on the beautiful white sandy beach.
Day 15 Trincomalee to Negombo
Depart for the long drive back to Negombo for your final night in Sri Lanka. Alternatively, avoid the drive and opt to fly to Colombo on a scenic light aircraft flight.
Days 16-17 Fly home
Additional Options: Sri Lanka’s east coast offers long stretches of white sand and calm waters during the months of Mar - Sep. As well as the wide bays of Passekudah, further north is the historic city of Trincomalee with its Portuguese fort and miles of virtually deserted beaches. We have based this tour on stays in Passekudah, however it can easily be tailored to a stay at any of our east coast properties.
