Bay of Islands & Northland Extension

Day 1  Auckland to Omapere  
Pick up your car and head north, passing through the magical Waipoua Kauri Forest. As you emerge, be wowed as the giant sand dunes and ocean appear before you.  

Day 2  Omapere  
Spend time exploring this enchanting area, discovering the picturesque Hokianga Harbour with 150m high sand dunes! Relax on the beautiful beaches and take a dip in the inviting waters. In the afternoon, you can head to the Waipoua Kauri Forest to see the mighty kauri trees, some that stand over 50m high, including Tane Mahuta – ’The Lord of the Forest’.  

Day 3  Omapere to Paihia  
Leave this charming harbourside town and journey to Paihia, gateway to the 144 picture perfect isles of the Bay of Islands.  

Day 4  Paihia, Bay of Islands  
Bay of Islands is best seen from the water, so this morning, board a catamaran to cruise into the heart of the bay for a relaxed and incredibly scenic tour. Cruise past tranquil islets and towering green islands rising from the sea, making sure you look out for the dolphin pods known to frequent these waters. After admiring the panoramic views, weigh anchor in a sandy cove for a chance to relax on untouched beaches and dip into the calm waters for a swim or a snorkel. Return to your vessel for a barbecue lunch surrounded by some of New Zealand’s best views.  

Day 5  Paihia, Bay of Islands  
Discover authentic Mâori culture and early New Zealand history at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, picnic on secluded beaches and look out for boats cruising through the bay. Take the short ferry ride across to the sleepy and quaint town of Russell for afternoon tea.

Day 6  Paihia, Bay of Islands to Auckland  
Enjoy the easy drive back down to Auckland.
