North Island Highlights

Days 1-2  Fly to Auckland  

Days 3-4  Auckland  
Arrive into Auckland and soak up the lively atmosphere at Viaduct Harbour or head to the top of the iconic Sky Tower. The next day, venture across the bay to gorgeous Waiheke Island for a guided tour of the area’s beautiful beaches and boutique wineries.    

Day 5  Auckland to the Coromandel Peninsula    
Pick up your car and enjoy the scenic drive to the wondrous Coromandel Peninsula, home to stunning coastline and exquisite beaches.  

Day 6  The Coromandel Peninsula    
Explore picturesque Cathedral Cove on a relaxing kayak tour, marvelling at the famous rock formations and keeping an eye out for the resident dolphins.    

Day 7  The Coromandel Peninsula to Rotorua
Head south to atmospheric Rotorua, set on the scenic lake from which the town takes its name.  

Day 8  Rotorua    
See the spectacular hissing geysers, natural hot springs and bubbling mud pools at the geothermal park. This evening enjoy a fascinating tour of the Tamaki Mâori Village, learn of the ancient cultural traditions, marvel at the almighty haka ceremonial dance and savour a Hângi feast, an authentic Mâori meal cooked in an earth oven.    

Day 9  Rotorua to Lake Taupô    
Drive along the Thermal Explorer Highway to Lake Taupô, one of New Zealand’s natural wonders with a lake the size of Singapore! Perhaps enjoy a cruise to the majestic Huka Falls or try your hand at fishing.    

Day 10  Lake Taupô to Tûrangi    
Wonder at the dramatic scenery as you drive to Tûrangi, your base to explore nearby volcanic Tongariro National Park.

Day 11  Tongariro NP    
Start early to begin your hike of this captivating national park, made up of three volcanic mountains which provide awe-inspiring natural scenery. With expert guides, trek the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, one of the world’s best one day hikes.    

Days 12-13  Tûrangi to Napier    
Journey east through forest parks to the pretty town of Napier, home to beautiful 1930s Art Deco architecture. Enjoy sampling a variety of wines on a tour of the area’s best wineries.    

Day 14  Napier to Martinborough    
Continue to picturesque Martinborough, North Island’s first dark sky reserve and another of New Zealand’s beautiful wine regions.  

Days 15-16  Martinborough to Wellington    
Finish in New Zealand’s charming capital city, home to fascinating museums and a dynamic food and art scene.    

Days 17-18  Fly home
