Local Tour
Duration: 8 hours
- Private vehicle & guide, Lunch, Entrance fees
Located a 2 hour drive outside of Quito, the ancient site of Tulipe was built by the Yumbo people who lived in the region from AD 800 – AD 1600. Astronomy and solar observations played an important part of Yumbo culture and this was reflected in the design of Tulipe. See stone structures where shamans performed ceremonies to the sun and moon and walk to the main pool which is surrounded by trees, medicinal and oriental plants. The Yumbo also built deep and narrow passageways which were covered with a roof of vegetation to allow merchants to travel out of the heat of the sun. After lunch at a local restaurant visit the Inti Ñan Museum for a better understanding of the importance of the sun for the ancient civilisations who lived along the equator.
Departs: Wed - Sun only.
