Itinerary

Day 1  Fly to Bangkok

Days 2-4  Bangkok
The teeming metropolis of Bangkok epitomises the rich tapestry of the ‘Land of Smiles’ and greets you with a phenomenal assault on the senses. Saturated in history, temples gleam around every corner, contrasting with fantastic shopping malls, sprawling markets, and superb restaurants – from Michelin starred gastronomy to a piping hot roadside pad thai.

Day 5  Bangkok to Chiang Mai
All aboard! Take a simple but comfortable overnight train to the enchanting northern city of Chiang Mai.

Days 6-7  The Bush Camp, Chiang Mai
Transfer from the station to The Bush Camp, home to free-roaming elephants! Set above the spectacular floodplains of the Ping River with a dramatic mountain backdrop, The Bush Camp provides a once in-a-lifetime experience to get-up close to the stately Asian elephant in their natural environment. Spend time feeding and interacting with these gentle giants and observe the life and customs of the Karen Hilltribe who care for them. In the evening, enjoy traditional dance performances and cooking demonstrations, or simply sit with a sundowner in hand and watch as the sun sinks behind distant mountains.

Days 8-11  Chiang Mai
After a final experience with the elephants, you will be picked up and transferred to Chiang Mai. Learn about the Buddhist faith that permeates the city as you explore its winding streets and the ancient relics of the Old Town. As dusk falls, listen to the monks chanting their evening prayers at majestic Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a sound emblematic of the city described as the cultural heart of Thailand. Meanwhile, Chiang Mai’s livelier side awakes as local musicians warm up their instruments to serenade residents and visitors alike at the city’s bustling night markets.

Days 12-14  Chiang Rai
Set off on a scenic transfer from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai. Take in the beautiful countryside of passing surrounding mountains and lush rice paddies. Make a stop at the famous Wat Rong Khun, otherwise known as ‘The White Temple’ and discover the history of its unique design before arriving at Chiang Rai. Spend your last few days immersing yourself in the local culture by visiting the surrounding eccentric temples or gothic architectural masterpiece known as the Blackhouse before ending your day wandering one of the flea markets  or trying delicious authentic cuisine.

Days 15-16  Transfer to Chiang Mai  and fly home
