72 Hours in Muscat

Day 1  Muscat      
Welcome to Muscat! On arrival into Oman’s capital city, you will be transferred to your hotel. Set against a dramatic backdrop of volcanic mountains contrasting the dazzling blue coast, Muscat is a city of two halves, combining deep-rooted history with modern architectural marvels. Once you have acclimatised to your surroundings, perhaps head out to explore the eclectic blend of landmarks from the gold and blue façade of the Al Alam Palace to the changing hues of the Royal Opera House where its whitewashed walls are lit up to reflect the desired ambience.      
       
Day 2  Muscat      
Begin today with a private tour of the city, venturing through contrasting modern life with traditional Omani culture. Your first stop, the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, is a masterpiece of Islamic art showcasing an exterior of intricate marble design with ornate interiors on an extravagant scale. Continue to the Bait Al Zubair Museum for an insight into core Omani heritage, as displayed through thematic exhibits and cultural relics. The last stop on your tour is the stunning Corniche waterfront, lined with lively fish markets and the labyrinthine Mutrah Souq, one of the oldest traditional markets in the Arabian world and a perfect place to find a souvenir.      
       
Day 3  Muscat      
On your last full day in Muscat, why not discover the natural beauty that surrounds the city. The glistening coast of Bandar Al Khairan with its clear shallow water and golden beaches is perfect for those wanting to kayak or swim, whilst the palm-fringed oasis of Nizwa, in the historic heartland of Oman, is home to a striking fortress and a great location for those wanting to experience the unique landscapes of the mountains. Wildlife enthusiasts amongst you should head out on a dolphin cruise from Muscat and watch as these playful mammals leap out of the water and if you’re lucky, depending on the time of seasons, whale spotting may be possible. For a stark contrast of landscapes, perhaps take to the desert in a 4WD and cruise through a sea of dunes to the dramatic Wadi Bani Khalid where its emerald waters, lush surroundings and ethereal setting make for the perfect hiking spot and photo opportunity.      

Day 4  Muscat      
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
