California Zephyr

Days 1-2  Chicago  
Fly to Chicago, where the incredible architecture and world-famous skyline is just the tip of what makes this city so special. Dig beneath the surface to find delights such as the Art Institute of Chicago, scenic hikes along the Lakefront Trail, shopping on the Magnificent Mile and perhaps a baseball game at Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs.  Whether it’s relaxing by Lake Michigan or exploring the city’s foodie culture at a farmers’ market, experience the best of cosmopolitan Chicago.    

Day 3  Chicago to Denver    
Board the California Zephyr and make yourself at home in your Superliner Roomette as the train heads west across America’s heartland. Enjoy magnificent scenery of the mighty Mississippi and vast Nebraska flatlands through the big windows before its time to get into your cosy bunk for the night.  

Day 4  Denver    
Wake up in Denver, the Mile High City and gateway to the Rockies. Perhaps stretch your legs and explore the city’s parks, join a city tour or arrange a day trip to the rugged canyons and high mountain peaks of Rocky Mountain National Park.  

Day 5  Denver to Salt Lake City    
Reboard the California Zephyr in the morning and climb into the Rocky Mountains. Travel past rivers, valleys and the beautiful buttes and mesas of Utah, signifying your arrival into Salt Lake City.  

Day 6  Salt Lake City to San Francisco    
Spend a day exploring this fascinating city with a visit to Temple Square and the City Creek Center before boarding the California Zephyr one last time. Settle in to your comfortable Superliner Roomette for the night, followed by breakfast overlooking the Nevada Desert in the morning. Enter California and head across the fir-covered Sierra Nevada Mountains and over the high altitude Donner Pass.    

Day 7  San Francisco    
Arrive in San Francisco this morning. This diverse and picturesque city, has a compact downtown and each distinct area boasts famous attractions. Why not ride a cable car through the city, or take in the Golden Gate Bridge by bike.  

Day 8  San Francisco    
Explore this captivating city at your own pace. Perhaps book a hop-on hop-off bus tour of its iconic sights such as Lombard Street, Fisherman’s Wharf and Alcatraz.

Days 9-10  Fly home
