Idyllic Whitianga and the coastal playgrounds of Hahei and Pauanui are fantastic bases from which to explore the attractions of the Coromandel Peninsula. Head to Hot Water Beach to dig your own steaming hot pool in the sand at low tide and spectacular Cathedral Cove, with its towering volcanic stacks emerging from the turquoise waters. Spend a few days here enjoying waterside dining and golden, sandy beaches.

Backing onto the Coromandel Forest Park, the surf town of Whangamata is the perfect setting for those wanting to explore the lush interior of the peninsula on foot or by bike with a variety of trails to discover. A 40 minute drive south, the white sands of Waihi Beach make for a gorgeous picnic spot.

With early beginnings as a mining town, Coromandel is today known for its charming mix of Victorian architecture, beaches and forests. Galleries are a popular attraction showcasing the talents of local artists, as well as the lovingly restored Driving Creek Railway. The closest beach of Long Bay is a peaceful spot to relax, or head inland for a swim at Waiau Falls and a short walk along the Waiau Kauri tree grove track.
